Travel Photoshoot - Las Vegas, August 2006

I make an annual trip to Vegas for a convention, and armed with a new 24mm lens (~40mm with my DSLR) I decided to shoot some scenery while I'm there. It can be a tough place to shoot anything that doesn't look like a cheap postcard, and I hope I've gotten a few shots that go beyond that.

I have a love-hate relationship with Vegas - it's such an energetic and living city, but at the same time it's all style with little substance, not to mention a hard place to breathe if you're not used to cigarette smoke anymore. Maybe next year I'll do the photo essay I really wanted to do, but for now, here are a few snippets from my travels there

Final thoughts: Well, I've been photographing people so much it was nice to give landscapes a shot. The wide-angle lens worked well and if/when I go back there I want to take some more interesting shots than the mostly-touristy stuff I did this time. Until next year...
