Monthly photoshootDecember 2007Theme: And now, for something a little different...Back to Monthly Index | Back HomeA lot of the time, I give preference to the people shots over in my event galleries, and my side stuff ends up... well, on the side. I'll try and share a variety of photos here that go beyond the event photos (though some will fall into that camp) and I'll start with a few old faves that have lacked a home on this site until now. Below I've got a few that I like, plus a little more talk on where and when they come from. |

It's a bit blurry due to being taken with a monopod. At night. This is the small church in the Eaton Centre courtyard (Church of the Holy Trinity), nestled next to a massive mall in the centre of the city. The colours just worked out well for this, and I can deal with the slight blur - gives it a surreal look to me.

On the opposite end, we have an action shot, somethig I really need to get better at, but I'm more than happy with this one. To me, the background guy's expression really makes the shot something special. Finally getting the knack of the action focus in this one. Taken during Crimson's photoshoot, we happened upon these skateboarders. I still have to track down that guy's email - it's somewhere in my possession. |

Another long exposure, taken off the dock of the family cottage, now sold. The stars are a bit blurry - there's a magic number of seconds where stars start to turn into star trails and I left my shutter open just a little too long. I love the exposure and colours, so I kept it up as a fave regardless. About a 35 second exposure one night from the dock on a very cold night... ...I think the one thing I'll really miss there are the stars. |

Somewhere in Pennsylvania, there's a little church on a hill with blue skies and a massive hillside vista. Driving by caused me literally to slam on the brakes, skidding to a stop on gravel to get some photos nearby. I have to eventually go through my sets more, or get a wider lens, but sadly I don't know if I can ever do the site justice.

Another monopod shot, taken outside one of the Police stations in downtown Toronto, near OCAD. I like the tunnel effect, and I've included it. So there...

Macro photo of a doll, owner unknown. Not full zoom, but still rather close-up and barely still enough for a clear photo. To really understand the challenge of macro, look at the full-size and the weave on her hat - yes, your depth-of-field is that narrow, and usually it's even narrower when you get closer. For this, I just really liked the blurring it gave to the doll. |

Another long exposure near the church in image 1 - I just like the glow the water had. |
